Mexican Stéphane Miroux (Gael García Bernal) has a wild imaginative dream world. His father passes away. He moves to France and gets a job at a boring calendar printing company. Stéphanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg) and Zoé move in next door. The movers drop a piano on Stéphane's hand. He falls for Stéphanie right away. She is pulled in by his imagination.Written and directed by Michel Gondry who also directed 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', this has lots of Charlie Kaufman touches although he's not involved in this movie. I really like the surrealism. I want to like this movie more but the story is a bit of a mess. Part of the problem may be the multitude of languages. Transferring from one language to the next may have more meaning for people who speak those languages. For example, I can't tell how bad is Stéphane's french. Also the switching between reality and dream is not as clear cut as I want it to be. I love the weird surrealism anyways.

This film was not your typical drama movie, It had very unusual scenes as the main character Stèphane was intensely entranced by his very own dreams and his unique imagination. He also happens to be in love with a French woman who he feels he can show his personal dream and reality world to. The women he falls in love with happens to have the name Stèphanie. Its fate for them to get married! Stèphane meets this women at his job which he works for a calendar- making firm. After multiple times of Stèphanie telling Stèphane how much she loves him, he still does not trust her and every time he sees her with another man he will go "crazy". After time goes by both of them slowly become less attracted to one another. Stèphane still loved her but Stèphanie found it was to hard to deal with him and his crazy dreams. This fantasy drama film had me confused at times but it overall was a great movie that had me entertained the whole time! Im glad I was able to watch this film in my class at school!

I didn't particularly enjoy the movie. It became boring at times when the main character acts like a child in love with a girl on the play ground. Even towards the end of the movie he was throwing his toys out the cot around because he dint get his way and nothing even happened between the two character in the end. The only things that impressed me was the set in his dreams was very creative at times it reminded me of Sponge bob with his bath dreams which I thought was very impressive. The humour in his office where he works was quite funny when the people he worked with cracked a few jokes between themselves. so all in all I didn't really enjoy the movie.
