With the aid of his girlfriend, Phyllis Potter, and best friend, Loomis, Grimm enters a Manhattan bank dressed as a clown, creates a hostage situation and executes a flawless robbery. The only thing left for the trio to do is make their getaway out of the city and to the airport. It sounds simple enough, but it seems that fate deserts them immediately after the bank heist. One mishap after another conspires to keep these robbers from reaching freedom.

Every time I watch this movie it seems fresh and new. Such great humor and chemistry between the characters. Highly recommend this movie. Bill Murray at his best.
"Quick Change" has a lot going for it. A comedy-crime-romance flick, it has lots of fresh, crisp lines that Bill Murray turns into many laughs. Randy Quaid's over-the-top outbursts of zaniness add more laughs. Then, several more characters add twists of humor throughout. Jason Robards appeared to be having fun making this film, and his remarks and wit brought smiles and laughter. As the cab driver, Tony Shalhoub, had some of the very funniest scenes. This hilarious romp has sight gags, great one-liners, zaniness and humor throughout. But the most poignant humor, I think, is in the spoofs. The script, with Murray at the helm, pretty much jabs at every aspect of life in the Big Apple. Traffic, police, organized crime, taxi service, workers, neighborhoods, and nationalities all get the poking-fun treatment. But for the profanity and coarse language in places, "Quick Change" might be a fun film for the whole family. This is a comedy – not a real-life crime and police drama. So, the few off-color lines seemed out of place or not to belong. Some script tweaking to replace those could have made the film even funnier. That would have led me to rate it a notch higher.
This may be a controversial statement but this is probably Bill Murray's best film and the one where he is certainly the most likable, because he never has really come across as a person who the audience sympathises with.Murray plays Grimm, dressed as a clown, robs a bank in Manhattan. He ingeniously sets up a hostage situation and then slips away with the loot and his accomplices, his cool girlfriend Phyllis is played by Geena Davis and his best friend, the buffoonish Loomis is played by Randy Quaid. The robbery itself is straightforward, it is the getaway that turns into a nightmare. They want to get to the airport to catch a flight out but it is complicated by the fact that fate, luck and all of New York City appears to be conspiring against their escape.Quick change is a mish mash of hostage drama/comedy and the more dark as well as slapstick getaway. Jason Robards plays the very veteran detective on their tale. The leads acquit themselves well and Murray who also co-directed really sells the film. Under-appreciated by its audience this really is a comedy classic.
It really is. I mean the whole plot premise is eat up with why they commit this robbery...to get outta New York!!!! The whole film is eat up with situations about how New York is noisy, inconvenient and just plain full of odd characters. Of course you throw in Bill Murray and you get one hilariously planned bank robbery gone "not so perfect".For me this film is for Americans who understand good quick 1 liners. Don't just pay attention to the scenes/scenario, listen to the dialogue carefully and pull out the great screen writing. Like Caddyshack and other American films that most Europeans love to hate, this is another one that just has that American sensibility about it...crazy and funny. Throw in a few cameos with Tony Shaloub and Phil Hartman and this is one film you just shouldn't miss.A+ fun all the way.
