I think I'll remember most of the scenes in this movie. It was extremely memorable. It was also skillful and clever. However, I'm surprised by all of the negative feedback towards it. I can only imagine that the reason it wasn't appreciated was that it's a Tarantino-style movie, and most people, to this day, don't 'get' Tarantino. To put it simply, Tarantino established a movie genre of his own, by making **movies about other movies**. Every scene references another, in a completely different movie. All of his references are from popular culture. The problem is that most people don't have even 5% of his movie knowledge, and are unsympathetic and lack understanding regarding his personal psychological issues, which also, always, find expression in his movies. While this movie wasn't directed by Tarantino, it's still firmly positioned in, and faithful to, the Tarantino style. For example, the scene where Leonor Varela tries to seduce the Pistolero Presidente across a snooker table, in a hallway, while giving him 'prophecies'. This is basically an allusion to a scene in the original Conan the Barbarian, but if you weren't aware of this context it would just strike you as lascivious, pointless lewdness (which, incidentally, is a popular myth or urban legend in its own right, but that's another matter)...What is this movie about? Again, if you watch this movie and expect to find things from the real world as opposed to a collection of homages and references to the yesteryear's classic cinema, you'll be disappointed. But if you watch it as it was intended - a piece of popular, entertaining art - you'll get the picture. It belongs to the Alexandre Dumas camp of enlightened liberty of consciousness. In short, it's about the romance of freedom. Even down to the arrow-in-the-chest scene, the characters are bandits cast in an exotic frame a la Dumas... I won't spoil it but you will need to have done some reading and/or movie watching before approaching this one.

This movie rocks! It breaks the rules. It has the 3 B's. (Movie Reference) Great stars, great story. Not for the main stream. If you like Sex and violence and great quote, this is the movie for you. I know why people will not like this movie. The heroes are dark and not heroes. The movie does not play games it gives you the story straight. The twist in the film is not earth shattering but it is very cool. When I like a movie I promote it. I tell people to go watch it. I basically gave this movie to everyone last year for Christmas. The big names in this became my favorite. The bikes are awesome the bikers are awesome and the chicks are awesome. Take the ride. Hell ride! Not for Candy ass posers.

Proving that not everything that has the tag of Quentin Tarantino on it is good was Hell Ride. When I saw the poster at my local movie theater ages ago, I was so bummed that I missed it at the theaters, but now that I saw it...I'll give it credit for the large amount of pointless nudity in it. The movie has a nice smorgasbord of eye candy.Micheal Madsen rocks as a biker wearing a tux, that was unique I'll give you that, and although having such counter culture icons as Dennis Hopper and David Carradine carry your picture was a great idea, there has to be more picture to carry. If there is a story I did not get it. The movie plays out more as a series of events that don't link together no where near as good as if Tarantino helmed the director's chair himself.Because of Tarantino's attachment to this movie I feel kinda lame about not getting it. I don't recall any of the late 60s early 70's biker films writer and director and star Larry Bishop was in, and if this movie authentically pays homage to that, I'm not interested in seeing them.In all fairness,if this movie was really that good it would not matter what genre it pays homage to, but it's not. I didn't get it. The only thing I got was the nudity, and that was not enough (it should be but it wasn't).

I wasn't hoping for much before deciding to watch Hell Ride. I saw the ratings and I was pretty sure that it was going to be bad. The reason I wanted to give it a try was because it had a great cast and it was produced by Quentin Tarantino. Sadly, these two things did nothing to make the film better, and it turned out to be a lot worse than I had ever expected. The film is written and directed by Larry Bishop, who stars as the main character. It's hard to point out on which front he's failed more. The directing makes the film look like a juvenile parody of everything Tarantino has ever done. Nearly every scene comes across as clichéd and very pretentious. Unfortunately, Bishop's storytelling skills aren't much better. Most of the time the plot is hard to follow, and sometimes even non-existent. The characters aren't much better. They are extremely shallow and speak weird lines that are supposed to be quirky, but are not. This makes the dialogue some of the worst in motion picture history. But probably the most amazing thing about this film is the acting. With people like Michael Madsen, Dennis Hopper, Vinnie Jones, and David Carradine you would expect some decent performances. But sadly, nearly every actor in this is terrible. Madsen looks like he isn't even trying, but just wants to act insane. Dennis Hopper is criminally underused, and gets no room to shine. Vinnie Jones just overacts in every scene and does a terrible accent. Only David Carradine comes close to giving a good performance, but he doesn't have much screen time and has to utter ridiculous lines. On the plus side none of these actors are as bad as Larry Bishop. Throughout the whole film he seems desperate to show us that he is a really cool tough guy. But he only succeeds in proving that he has no acting ability, no charisma, and no talent overall. His performance is like watching a poor man's Sylvester Stallone who is trying to do a Tom Savini impersonation. After watching this film I was left with an empty feeling. I didn't feel any emotion, but I knew that this was a terrible movie. You could summarise Hell Ride just by saying it's a complete waste of time. There are hardly any redeeming features. The directing is terrible, it's badly acted, and the story is boring and nearly non-existent. It's best just to stay away from this rubbish.
