Korean War. An American pilot, a couple of North Korean and South Korean soldiers take respite in a peaceful valley with villagers who know nothing of unnatural strife. An epic sized almost-a-fairy-tale with a touch of 'Shangri-La', a touch of magic, a touch of 'that ain't likely' and a touch of brutal warfare. The Americans are aggressive. Excellent production values, beautiful photography, great actors and two impressive battle sequences. The humor is gentle and there is some corn but also great charm. It will be too long for some, but that's the way it is.

This film is another example of the Korean Cinema having really come into it's own. This beautiful antiwar film is stunning to look at (hats of to the DP), well acted, and nicely directed. And the fact that it is a remake of De Broca's classic takes nothing away from it at all, in fact it adds to my appreciation of it. The story and the characters are recrafted just perfectly to make it a totally Korean film, while losing none of the poignancy of De Broca's original. The beautiful, crazy girl, the carnival like affect, the cast of eccentric townspeople, all are perfectly retold. It is hard thing to improve on one of the great classics of the French cinema, especially at a time when some would say the French were at their heyday. But now is a time when making the Americans look like war happy fools, wrecking someone else's front lawn, needed a good saying. And former TV Commercial Director Kwang-Hyun Park says it perfectly.Hats off to Hye-jeong Kang too for her entrancing performance. See this and see the original.

Someone else in here mentioned how naive the movie is about the North-South Korea relations.... Forget that. How about "How naive the whole movie is" ??? The idea the whole movie is based on is cute, and thats the only reason I wanted to watch it anyway, but besides that, it doesn't deliver at any point. Predictable story, childish lines, uninspired digital effects, boring characters, ridiculous foreign actors and so it goes. I see here its director's debut film, so I hope next time, he will find a better way to express himself and spend the production's money.I love Korean Cinema, but this one is a bad movie. Really!

Charming feel good story set during the Korean War. Hard to believe but true! The characters are easy to identify with, and draw you into the story. They are fairly believable, with the slight exception of the North Korean commander who seems perhaps too heroic. It verges on being trite or cheesy at times, idolizing the "quaint" village, but for the most part stays away from that. The film is even handed in its treatment of all sides in this war, other than perhaps the military command, as it is quite anti-war. There is a bit of violence and gore, so it isn't for young children. I would recommend this to anyone; go in expecting a fairly romanticized comedy and you shouldn't be disappointed.
