I had it between a 7 and an 8 also. Really nice movie a bit hookey, but it is refreshing. We don't see these type of movies much and it was a music treat.Nice plot where it felt it was made for a guy to watch and not overthink anything. It does seem to borrow from Top Gun, but that;s okay in my book. It's about a hotshot pilot, his hotshot buddy, some terrorists and the trouble he gets into for being a hotshot. Sounds familiar, that's okay. Nothing wrong with the movie. It is a fine watch. Good acting and some great macho guy scenes.I give it a 7.6 and recommend a watch.
This movie is a masterpiece in its genre. Far better than Top Gun but less impressive than Pearl Harbor. The first asset of this movie is without any doubt the flights scenes which are truly awesome. Taken from pods attached to the real planes, it gives a feeling of realism and freedom you've never seen anywhere else. Of course, The actors are not piloting the jets: The French Air force was in charge of shooting the flight scenes alongside with Gerard Pirès, who is a real fan of aviation. So don't be surprised if the jets are the real stars of the movie: it's on purpose! The second asset is the soundtrack who really fits well the scenes. It gives a sensation of freedom and lightness during some soft scenes and are very bouncy during dogfights.Unfortunately there are some goofs too. The action side is very present, too much present and the story becomes too much weird because of that. 9/11 was still in everyone's head in 2004 (it still is today) and we were all afraid of what Al Qaeda was capable of. But Imagine that: Stealing a Mirage, using it for a terrorist strike in Paris??? Too much awkward for me!I want to clarify something: Alice Taglioni is not playing an American pilot. The other girl is American. Taglioni's character is a french pilot who was in love with Marchelli (Benoit Magimel) and joins the squadron to become an instructor in Salon De Provence (French Air Force school). So, in conclusion, visually its perfect but the scenario's writers need to improve themselves.
The storyline was nice, had a few little twists and You don't neccesarly find out the whole plot within the first few minutes. The air scenes are very, very good, probably within the best of all movies that feature some air combat. As the movie often gets compared to Top Gun: well, if You found Top Gun a bit plotless, a bit boring, a bit too much romance and the fighting very, very lame, then You'll definitely enjoy this movie. Sky fighters is about 70% air combat, 25% story and 5% romance. I dimly remember the soundtrack was real good too.It would probably be a mistake to bring along Your girlfriend.
Sky Fighters is about a pair of French pilots that stop a terrorist attack on France. Some crooked arms dealers get involved with Arab terrorists and plan to shoot a flying gas tank down over an international meeting in Paris. They try to steal one mirage plane and don't get away with it. The get another chance as an American pilot joins the team for inter-forces training and are thwarted by the same French pilots. The American is a blond terrorist that infiltrated the military and is the new face of terrorism. The acting was pretty good and the scripting/editing was fine as well. It was a little shallow with not a lot of character details. The dialog was average.
