The first rule of Going Overboard...You do NOT talk about Going Overboard. This is easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The acting is terrible. The swearing is excessive and not funny. The pacing is painfully slow. The girls aren't particularly stunning. I wanted to ignore the negative reviews. But they are certainly true. I watched about 15 minutes and then chaptered through. That was all I could take. Incinerate all copies you find.
I had to stop watching this after the Adam Sandler character gave a short introduction and then did a "funny walk" up a long gangplank accompanied by a sprightly pizzicato soundtrack. I thought about it for a little while. Whose idea was that -- the jaunty waving arm, the goofy smile? Was it the director's idea? Did the director's Uncle Morty, who used to be in vaudeville, visit the set at the onset of shooting and say, "What you need is a boffo comic walk to liven things up a little?" Was the director too intimidated by Uncle Morty's show-biz provenance to refuse? Or did young Adam Sandler himself concoct that schtick?Who knows if the rest of the movie was any good. I had to stop right there because that scene made me spiritually and physically ill.
I was unaware of this movie when I came across this in VHS format at a yard sale in my area. I saw the young face of Adam Sandler and thought that this my be a lost gem from his early days. In fact it was more like a rock than a gem. This is a story of gibberish that was so boring that you could not keep up with what was happening on the screen. The situation was utterly ridiculous and the lines were so unfunny I actually felt sad for the actors. Perhaps it was my VCR that made the picture of the film look sloppy but it seemed like it was filmed as a high school project rather than by professional adults. I was glad when I saw the review of others that I was not alone in panning this film. And with all that said, I still feel cheated out of 10 cents.
I don't know what people are talking about. I don't see how this movie could get a 1.8 rating. I don't see how this Adam Sandler movie could be lower rated than Jack and Jill. Yes this movie can slow at times but some moments are really funny.Adam Sandler plays a struggling comedian who takes a lowly job on a cruise ship in hopes eventually he could be a big cruise ship comedian. You have Scott LaRose who plays Dickie Diamond the cruise ship comedian. Dickie Diamond is someone who uses the F-Word a lot. You wouldn't think he is the cruise ship comedian but he is. He ends up eventually getting locked up in a bathroom. The people on the cruise ship think he must have died and have a funeral for him. It was one of my favorite parts of the movie. There are some parts of this movie that are really funny. I don't understand why this movie gets such a low rating. There are plenty of other worse Adam Sandler movies.
