I'm shocked by the movie's rating here!! It's totally brilliant!Directing, acting, music, idea, ending .. everything! At first you'll feel bit confused of the back and forward scenes but all of a sudden it will become so clear and incidents will start to straighten up and makes more sense. Acting was so natural and you won't feel it's acting at all, ending was a plus maintaining the fictional part.Even criminal wasn't that evil when he dived in his memories.A totally brilliant and amazing movie you shouldn't miss!!
This movie, it's sad, it could have been another Primer, but they forgot the number one rule of low budget SF: the writing must SPOTLESS. And it wasn't. the outline is that Tom invents some machine that allows you to restore your own memory, but it can also be used to go into others peoples minds. Now, the first major plot-hole is so obvious, they should have lampooned it: Tom should have realized this himself, it should not have been a surprise to him. But when he does realize, the possibilities for abuse, like finding peoples passwords and codes seem endless. This doesn't even come up at all.But okay. So, Tom, the inventor, gets stuck in Anthonys mind, sure. but it's weird, how come, all of a sudden after FOUR years Tom realizes that Anthony can see him? There's no change in Antony.also, at the end, it tries to do too much at once: happy reunion with the wife, killing the drug-pusher, blame his father for the set up, realizing that Antony is innocent. Also, it's really weak sauce that this whole complicated return of Tom in his own brain, which requires a special setup with his trained assistant, can apparently also be done with a home-improvement DIY kit by his non-technical, and (understandably) overly emotional wife?? Really improbable! Also, wouldn't the priority be to call a doctor? Finally, what happens to Antony? does he go to Toms mind now, does he die? It's wholly unclear. All in all, very sloppy writing, which should never have happened, since writing can be done without a time constraint. Sure, it might be that they had to cut too much out for time, but still Still, a sympathetic effort, but in the end, forgettable. The Melancholic Alcoholic.
I don't know how to say exactly in English but it's definitely a very good film to watch. All the film is very nice to watch. I still have something to confuse and think about because I quite not understand the end but a good film. I gave it 10!And still don't understand how this film is underrated. It makes me have to watch all over the film from the beginning to the end. No action scene but still really catching.
There's no way for "Extracted" to avoid comparisons to "Inception". So let's just get it out of the way. There's plenty of similarities, no denying that. Is this a ripoff? No, it isn't.While "Inception" had plenty of CGI and useless action scenes, this movie is more down to earth. Nothing too ambitious, as most of the scenes consist of...conversation. Just good old-fashioned dialogue and a simple story going from A to B. Also, we don't get "WAS IT ALL JUST A DREAM" - type of ambiguity just for the sake of ambiguity. There is one scene that some people might call a twist, but it fits, it's not forced and neither ruins or makes the movie. The script is fine. I would've liked it to have squeezed more SciFi and drama into the story and perhaps it wasn't as challenging as I would've liked, but it works nonetheless. It's clever enough and focuses on what's important. Directing compliments the script and vice versa. The main actors do a pretty good job. This isn't a modern classic for me, but I liked it enough to recommend it for a rainy day. Unlike "Inception", though not being nearly as ambitious as a production, "Extracted" gave me a story where things that I can care about are at stake, and then it rewarded me with a satisfying ending (while not forcing any pretentious ambiguity down my throat). It did its job.
