If you watch this movie for the first time its quite funny. Its pretty much like Dead Heads, two stupid zombie friends doing stupid zombie things while trying to cover up they're actually zombies and not just regular stupid people. Not as funny as Shaun of the Dead, which is quite awesome, but still very watch-able and entertaining. Some scenes just feel like fillers to reach a 90 minute movie, though. And some of the jokes are really lame. So I'd say its a nice movie to watch with a friend once and then just forget about it, I wouldn't buy the DVD or anything. Just stream it on Amazon or something. Still I'm happy the zombie genre produces some more medium quality movies and not just low budget b-trash-leavemealone-movie kind of stuff.
How can those two genres even mix? Gore horror and classic buddy movie action sizzle together. Fallen marine Bart returns home in a coffin, but not for long, much to the surprise of his best friend Joey played by the quite brilliantly unique Chris Wylde. Upon rising from the grave, Bart seeks solace in his buddy who does what he can to aid his dead friend - even if it means bending the rules a bit. When it seems that only human blood can keep Bart from rotting away, Joey takes him to the streets as a vigilante killer and so plenty of warm blood to drain. The movie develops in a way that will hook you to the brilliant end sequence. The performances are world class, and the script razor sharp blending black humor and witty dialogue from start to finish. Zombie movies get an original slant here. This is the very best of the indie movie industry.
I've not written a review for IMDb before, but I'm so impressed with this movie - and there are some misleading negative reviews here that don't represent it at all - I thought I'd throw in my £0.02 worth.Firstly, if you're a horror fan, you'll love it. If not you'll probably hate it and only see its flaws, and it is flawed. We know this though, right? Part of the joy of horror movies is Cheepnis and The Revenant has it's fair share. Louise Griffiths is awful, the pacing is all over the place, and there are some gaping plot holes that frustrate, because everything else about The Revenant rocks.Secondly, It has to be seen in the light of every other horror movie you've seen to make any sense. Not that it's an homage or anything like that, but it is an original twist on the Vampire/Zombie genre. I wish I'd thought of it and I'm not going to con myself or you into believing that I had or that this is old hat. Thirdly, it is funny, horror and comedy are excellent bedfellows and this succeeds by being one of the campest and morally execrable buddy movies I've seen. Joey and Bart have a great screen relationship as Joey's depraved selfishness creates a downward spiral of mayhem. What's more, it parades it's moral bankruptcy in the guise of vigilantism so we believe we're watching the good guys. Capped off with one of the most quotable lines in a horror movie ever, my heart thrilled and warmed to the two central performances - not to mention some great cameos from the supporting cast.n summary, ignore the haters and naysayers, if you're a horror buff, definitely see this.
Remember how gritty and darkly funny Super was, with that message that one person really can be heroic...or just insane while taking out the bad guys? Remember how Fido with it's campy comedy made you root for the zombie... who seemed to be an overall great guy? Smash that together and you get The Revenant. The pacing is not the best, but it has a good story with a great ending reminiscent of the Worst Case Scenario Promo Trailers (they never got enough funding to make that movie). Plus it has some very memorable moments thanks largely due to the acting of the two leads. Some of the dialog and character choices were a little cheesy and maybe unrealistic, but the rest makes up for those short comings.Just to keep in mind, I can't really call this a zombie film, because it seems way closer to a vampire film, but it has the gross moments you'd expect from a zombie comedy and doesn't really remind me of any vampire films. There is a slightly drawn out scene that claims he is both, which I would dismiss due to the misleading "facts" provided, but I'm sure zombie fans can appreciate much of the film.
