My wife and I really enjoyed this movie. I loved firstly how well Rob Brown did in his very first screen event. Before I get too far into this, we have both seen Good Will Hunting...we got rid of it! So long ago we drew no comparisons as so many reviewers on here seem to have done.I love movies of situ's where old older person mentors a younger one and this is one of those kind of films.I guess I should confess, due to our disposition we don't go to cinemas anymore. We wait till all the movies we are interested in, come out on DVD.I like all of Sean Connery's roles except the James Bond one or two or?? I also like Anna Paquin, and it would have been nice to see something progress with her and Rob Brown...mixed colour relationship and all that might throw up. Oh me! I run a catalogue of all our DVD collection and I can tell the readers this is one movie that gets a lot of repeat viewing here at home. My father-in-law says you only need to view a movie once. However, I find every time I view a movie, I often pick up something I missed before.I don't want to give away too much, but let me assure readers you will not be disappointed with this movie. Even the cranky old role played by F Murray-Abrahams.

Because of scoring exceptionally high on a statewide standardized exam and being an exceptionally good basketball player Jamal Wallace is sent to a prestigious prep school in Manhattan. He soon befriends the reclusive writer, William Forrester. The friendship leads William to overcome his reclusiveness and for Jamal to overcome the racial prejudices and pursue his true dream - writing. Finding Forrester is a 2000 Drama starring Sean Connery, Rob Brown, F. Murray Abraham, Anna Paquin and Michael Pitt and the film was directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting). What i really liked about this film was the relationship between Jamal and William they had some sort of father and son relationship or whatever you wanna call it but both Brown and Connery are really great in this film and they have a pretty good chemistry plus i liked Abraham as Prof. Robert Crawford he was kinda of the main 'villain' of the Story because he didn't believe Jamal and he didn't believe that he would have a future besides Basketball of course Paquin is also really good. Overall i don't think that there's much more to say it was just a really good Drama with the main actors being really good in their roles and Gus Van Sant just knows how to direct a well made and well directed Drama plus Sean Connery is good in anything he stars.

Raised in the Bronx along side thugs and criminals, Jamal Wallace possesses an impressive set of intellectual skills which many do not. Afraid to stand out, Jamal hides his intelligence only showing it on the school's standardized test. Shortly after revealing his gift, Jamal stumbles upon William Forrester, a famous book writer that had been out of the media for years. After Jamal discovers Forrester, a bond forms as the two create works of writing together which Jamal will uses for his school. After receiving Jamal's test scores, a prestigious private school, Mailor Callow, ask Jamal to attend their school for free. Accepting their offer, Jamal has to overcome the challenges of changing schools and face new people such as his professor Mr. Crawford who is not as smart as Jamal therefore feels threatened by Jamal's attendance. Jamal battles through school with the help of his new found friend Forrester who in the end, gets Jamal into a tangle by helping him. Jamal and Forrester grow close to each other as time goes on helping each other with their battles and finding peace and happiness in each other.The film Finding Forrester is possible one of the best films in existence. Showing the challenges of life and how a well bonded friendship can fix nearly anything, the film reaches out and touches your heart while still being humorous and showing what life is like in the Bronx. Unlike most other films Finding Forrester allows the viewer to see that not everyone's life is cotton candy and rainbows, however it does show that even with a tough life, everyone still has the opportunity to succeed in life. I believe that many people would enjoy this film seeing that it is a story of success and who doesn't like to hear about other peoples accomplishments. Also if, like myself, you come from a family of people that don't attend college let alone finish high school, this film is easy to connect with giving it a personal touch.Throughout this movie the director had several different archetypes that made the movie almost seem like a fairy tale. One major archetype in this film was William Forrester who was "the mentor". Teaching Jamal several life lessons Forrester helped Jamal through the tough times and even helped fight off Jamal's "evil adversary" Mr. Crawford. Mr. Crawford repeatedly attacked Jamal throughout the film until finally trying to kick him out of the school due to Jamal's intelligence. Jamal's "mentor" Forrester lived in an apartment that could be seen as a "tower". This apartment was his tower of solitude which he hardly ever came out of and almost seemed if he was locked away for life hiding from pesky paparazzi. Throughout most of the movie the scenes show a dark and gloomy sky almost as if their is a darkness over Jamal, however in the end of the movie after both Jamal and Forrester have overcome their challenges the skies clear up and everyone is happy. I believe that the writer and director created these different archetypes to represent that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that just because you were born somewhere or in a family of certain people, that does not mean you have to live your whole life in that place.

Finding Forrester Film Review Kaitlyn Johnson In the movie Finding Forrester, Jamal Wallace grew up in place not everyone calls '"home". The neighborhood was run down and poor. Jamal was one of the smartest kids in his school according to his test scores and teachers. He got accepted into a private school and got offered a free ride to attend school there and play basketball. He had met an older man who never went outside and lived in an apartment. Where he also meets a girl that he gets to know very well and they end up spending a lot of time together.In my opinion, I feel like older teens and young adults would like this movie because there are more things in this movie that young adults and older teens would relate to. For example, when Jamal gets offered a free ride to attend the private school and to play basketball. Typically I feel that it would be harder for an older teen who is Jamal's age to move schools because he would have to leave all his friends who he grew up with and the life he knows. He would have to start all over which could be challenging. I also think older teens and young adults would like this movie because it involves Jamal meeting a girl who he has feelings for and they end up liking each other. They spend a lot of their time together and normally little kids don't really "date". Some archetypes I noticed in this film were rain, when Jamal was walking home one night it started pouring down rain. I also noticed the colors green and yellow a lot. Those colors were the colors of the basketball teams which can mean new life and sunshine. It was also around the fall or winter time because of how they dressed. Always wearing jackets, scarfs, etc. which can mean death. I noticed throughout the whole movie it was always kinda plain, there never was a bunch of color. I think the reason why the filmmakers those the archetypes that they did was because at the end of the movie when Forrester dies, he ends up giving Jamal all of his stuff which shows kindness because Forrester didn't have to do that. The archetype winter or fall can mean death which is how the movie ended.
