Writing's really stupid. Their major decisions were incredibly dumb and made no sense at all. Why on earth would they go to a mall to escape? There would be so many ways the zombies could get in. And shatterproof glass? Seriously? What were the odds? The mall's too big a place with different levels - what made them think that they could cover every single exit? And going to a boat was their best way out? Seriously? It could've been a concrete plan if it was explained to us clearly. But no all we know was that Steve had this boat and they were going to reinforce two buses as if they were all suddenly handymen and drive out to it to go to some random island they didn't even know exist. Then there's the zombies. My god were they almost hilarious. I had no idea if the movie was going for a comedic direction because it sure as hell seemed like it. I guess it was still quite entertaining, although for the wrong reasons. I could've stopped watching but I didn't. Probably wouldn't watch it again.
This is a good remake is not better then the original film of course George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead (1978) is a classic but this film is a good follower and Sarah Polley is fantastic in her role. This is the only good movie Zack Snyder has ever done and I have been watching a lot this movie. I have it on Blu-ray disc and this film was really the first zombie film I saw before I purchase an watch the original film. The special effects were done by Heather Langenkamp from a Nightmare on Elm Street ,A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and New Nightmare. My favorite heroine Nancy Thompson did special effects for the zombies for this movie. This is my all time favorite zombie horror film that I have watch it more then once Ving Rhames is also good likable character much better then he was in Undisputed.A mysterious virus is bringing the dead back to life as vicious re-animated corpses that go fast and feed upon the living. One morning, a nurse (Sarah Polly) escapes from her house after her husband was turned into a zombie as she escapes on the road only to be later crashed without being killed. She teams up with a reluctant police officer (Ving Rhames) whom helps her up and joins with other human survivors (Mekhi Pfeifer, Ty Burrell, Lindy Booth, Jake Weber, Michael Kelly, and Kevin Zegers) as they seek shelter in a large shopping mall. Unfortunately there is a few monsters inside that can be eliminated by a bullet to the skull, as now the living must try to survive as they battle out with the killer dead and try to find a way to escape. When i first heard back in late 2003 when George A. Romero's masterpiece "Dawn of the Dead" from 1978 was going to be remade, i was really upset. I mean why mess with something that wasn't even broke in the first place? Then when i saw the trailer to it, i thought it might not be so bad. Afterall the original 1978 version is one of my favorite movies of all time, i did went to see this version in the theater and was pleasantly surprised of how well this was well made. This is a spectacular update of George A. Romero's classic and worked just like the 1990 remake to "Night of the Living Dead" , this movie offers great performances by the cast and marks the debut of visionary Zack Sydner who gave us "300" and the upcoming "Watchmen". this movie is loaded with action and over the top gore like exploding heads, implements and of course the zombies here are fast like in the tradition of "Return of the Living Dead", "Nightmare City", "Lifeforce" or "The Stuff". Although it misses out on the excellent social satire that made the original the classic it was, but this is a brilliant and fun re-imagining that is a solid winner.Score A 9/10 I would have give it 10 but the original George A. Romero movie is way better but for 2004 this I a great horror film.
Dawn Of The Dead its a remake of the original horror classic by George Romero, the remake was directed by Zack Snyder, who I love, and its written by James Gunn, another good filmmaker.I believe that this film its actually better that the original by George Romero, but the original was so great for its time, so fresh and groundbreaking, that it doesn't seem fair to compare them. The remake its filled with action, tension and great directing, acting and writing, the original was also really good, but it seemed a little cheesy at times, even for a zombie film.As a film, Dawn Of The Dead its pretty good, it took a really good film and made it better and gave more depth to it.
The remake of Dawn of the dead follows a new set of survivors taking sanctuary in a mall.Sarah Polly was a gem as a nurse who loses her husband and has to cope in a world turned upside down. The zombies were frightening from their look, speed and ferocious need to eat like a hungry lion.Atmospher else the mall was a little well light. Maybe having the generator go out or having the characters father in the conned webbed basement would suffice. The characters each had arches that I enjoyed from new relationships, shopping and trying to keep the mall secured. It was interesting to see different groups come together as a united unite and survive. A cop, gangster, nurse and a few social odd balls made me laugh, cry and care what happened to them. The ending could've used more work as I usually don't Like when everyone does. Other then that it was perfectly made and should've won best script of the year.
