Wow.. this film i would class as a rare perfection. Brilliant fight scenes, car chases and superb acting. I feel Liam Neeson is at his best here. I've always been a big fan of his but here he is definitely at his best. The scenes of gathering information about Bryan Mill's daughter is very well executed. Very clever ways were used in order to extract information and i liked that alot. The only downside i can think of is that its to short and some scenes i think could have been stretched longer to give more actors a chance to show of their characters. Apart from that this is an absolute masterpiece, watch it now!
While I can understand people liking this, and I can appreciate the effort, this just didn't click with me. Some parts I liked, Liam Neeson can be intimidating, and some of the action scenes are good, but the movie never really hits a stride. The plot's basic, it's not meant to engage you, so I went into this with my brain off, expecting to have a good time. The whole movie was marketed as this tough action-thriller, but it's actually pretty slow. There are quiet moments, then an action scene, but they're not really integrated well. It feels like the action scenes are there, just for the trailer shots, not because they're needed, if that makes sense. Also, I get the feeling this was originally rated R, and edited down to a PG-13. I say that, because people are shot, and no blood is shown, also the camera man has a seizure during these scenes and never directly focuses on anything. It's disorientating, and takes away from the only action the movie has. The climax is good though, it's probably the most well done scene in the movie, and it's only 90 minutes long, but there are a lot more movies that I can watch instead of this.
This is one of the movie I liked to see again and again. I liked the dialogue in which Lian Neeson said to kidnappers to find and kill them. This is the movie one never leave in between. So I suggest just enjoy it. I have seen all the series of movies taken 2 and 3 also. All are fantastic entertainment.
Taken was popular when it was released in 2008, so popular in fact that it sprouted 2 sequels. All I can say after watching this however is that I won't be watching the others. the main problem with this film is that it rarely breaks from being an unnecessary dim-lit chain of jump cuts and over-the-shoulder dialogue shots. There is little here to please the eye. The only thing this film has to offer is the interesting (though often poorly thought out) methods the main antagonist uses to get his own way. If it wasn't for Liam Neeson, I'd give this a 4/10. While I'm not specifically a fan of him, his chilling performance takes a mess of an action movie and dresses it up slightly.
