This film was marketed about Bruce Lee, and its more focused on Steve McQueen's character. After watching this film with so many inconsistencies about the history of Bruce Lee, I am baffled at how many mistakes this film made. Plus BL is a very unlike able character in this film. This film is not what it was marketed to be.
That was the worse most disrespectful depiction of the greatest kung fu master the world has known. Shame on all of the directors and producers for putting out that horrible film.
This is a brilliant movie if you see what it for what it is - not a movie intended to glorify Bruce Lee - but a movie intended to present a plausible account of the duel that transpired between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man.To appreciate the film better, it helps to be acquainted with the source material, Mike Dogan's "Official Karate" article "Bruce Lee's Toughest Fight" Reading that, one would give Wong Jack Man's version of the fight the benefit of the doubt. His description is more plausible and, more importantly, he published the entire account in a newspaper with an invitation for a public duel if Bruce Lee disagreed, and Bruce Lee never disagreed (which is unusual for such a loud, aggressive, and self-righteous fellow).
Set against the backdrop of 1960s San Francisco, BIRTH OF THE DRAGON is a modern take on the classic movies that Bruce Lee was known for. It takes its inspiration from the epic and still controversial showdown between an up-and-coming Bruce Lee and kung fu master Wong Jack Man - a battle that gave birth to a legend. Birth of the Dragon is an insult to fans of Bruce Lee seems no one in the film even tries to act or even do something worth with the script plus what is even worse is that Lee gets the back seat and some random dude gets more screen time than him who tries to fit in and get back with his girl or whatever, WWE made one of the worst films ever made regarding their Studio.
