A gruesome homage to the cult Amicus anthology Asylum, Cradle of Fear unfolds four screamplays all linked by the unspeakable need of an incarcerated child killer to wreak vengeance on those responsible for his imprisonment. Helped by deranged angel Dani Filth, who leaves a trail of charnel house death in his crimson wake, the cannibal convict forces two Goth vamps to endure a one night stand from hell, two tough female robbers to see through each other, an obscenely rich coke-head to chop up more than a few lines and an internet surfer to descend into madness when he uncovers the ultimate web depravity.

I just had the pleasure of watching Cradle of Fear on Amazon Prime and as well as being a terrible film, I had the added bonus of having no soundtrack on the audio! There was voices and (unintentional?) background noise but where there was clearly meant to be a soundtrack (which I assume would have been Cradle of Filth songs) there was... nothing. This is probably the reason I sat through the film as it made it even more laughably awful (and bearable, perhaps) than it probably is with the music. Even the sound effects were missing; in one scene a man fires a gun but it just goes "pfft'. That aside, everyone involved with this film must look back and cringe with embarrassment. Its cheap, poorly made both in visual and audio design, badly acted, the plot (haha) meanders aimlessly and manages to never once be interesting. I think the selling points of the film were meant to be the violence and gore and the nudity; sadly even the gore effects are awful and the sex scenes are some of the least erotic committed to film (or camcorder, which this was probably made with). Some of my favourite parts of the film; Cradle frontman Dani Filth stabbing a cat in front of an alter of polystyrene skulls. A team of asylum workers wearing what appears to be cushions taken off a fake leather sofa wrapped in electrical tape restraining an inmate. A woman walking down the streets starts seeing demons in tacky halloween masks. A monster spider-baby pops out of a womans tummy! Cradle of Fear was probably meant to appeal to young teenagers with an interest in the band, goth culture and morbid themes. It was probably made by people in their late-thirties and forties with an interest in the band, goth culture and morbid themes. And they should have been old enough to know better. 1/10
CRADLE OF FEAR is a shot-on-video horror anthology film from cinema bad boy Alex Chandon, and starring Dani Filth from the heavy metal band CRADLE OF FILTH. Filth is clearly no actor and thankfully limited to appearing in the nonsensical wraparound story, so at least the viewer can watch the four main tales collected here without his presence. This movie was described as a tribute to the likes of the Amicus film ASYLUM, but viewers looking for similarities between the two titles are likely to be sorely disappointed. Because CRADLE OF FEAR is trash of the highest order: incredibly gory trash, it has to be said, but trash nonetheless. Every cast member gives stilted and embarrassing performances, the stories could have been (and probably were) written on the back of beer mats, and everything as a whole is a waste of time. The first tale is about a one night stand that goes horribly wrong. There's ample gore in this one, and some quite extensive nudity from the willing Emily Booth, and that's about it. The second tale is about two robbers who fall out and is merely an exercise in bloodshed. The third story is about a George Michael lookalike who loses his leg and becomes desperate to get another. Eileen Daly strips off for the role and there are some incredibly awful CGI car effects. The final story is about a snuff website and is the longest and most boring of the lot. Anybody who's a fan of the classic British horror anthologies of old, or even American ones like CREEPSHOW and CAT'S EYE, should stick to them...
I love low budget cheap horror, however it get tiresome when the storyline is the same... this was completely different. I had no idea what was going on from one moment to the next, it kept me guessing and was really really graphic, I loved it... SPOILER COMING: the scene in the sick rooms could have been more gruesome, could have chose to sever a genital or a head as opposed to what he did choose but this was saved by the fact that the rest of the film was that gory, that i am quite ashamed I wanted more. Never the less, the film was really fun to watch with the demonic faces, the crazy beast baby, and the ending.... I loved it loads! Even though I'm not particularly a cradle of filth music fan or a Goth, there is no reason why you would not enjoy it, especially if you like a little nonsensical violence and blood.
Let me start off by saying that I love Cradle of Filth, and I am a big fan of Dani Filth. So, I was excited to see a film starring him, as well as CoF's music. That being said, the movie is bad. Very bad. It is a difficult film to watch due to bad scripting, bad acting and bad special effects. Off the bat, I want to give the film a 3 or a 2 even. But, I didn't. The reason for that is the very reason that kept me watching - to find out what happens and for more laughs. Also, they managed to find some very good-looking actresses willing to take off clothes. The movie kept me interested enough to carry on watching (not the story or script, just to see how people die), something that many big-budget films occasionally fail at. Other than that, I had a great laugh. Considering I watched it alone, it would be a great film to watch with some friends and a drink - assuming you are looking for a comedy involving splattering heads.I don't want my review to say that the movie is good. It isn't, at all. The point is that I am sure even the director and Dani (who had to work together, I assume) must have had their own laughs watching this, due to their very sick and hilarious brand of bloody humor.
