This film was about 80% expository dialogue, 15% hammy drama and 5% action. The exposition part really drags the film down - scene after scene of two or three characters sitting or standing around explaining what's happening. I guess the editor realized this was too boring so he tried to mix things up by overlaying two expository scenes over one another (one sentence of one exposition, cut to one sentence of an "earlier" exposition, cut back to the first one, back and forth for on and on). This helps a little bit with the drag of the scenes but it also jerks the viewer between the sets confusingly. It also gets old quickly and it happens throughout the entire movie. The hammy drama is unfortunately not entertaining enough. There seems to be only one group of actors who realized they're in a trashy sci fi with rubber monsters and acted accordingly (the prison buddies and antagonists that get about 5 minutes of screen time). All the other actors seem to think they are in the American Beauty and go for subtlety. The result is boring and a little jarring. The action parts are actually good, but they are few and far between and they start and end abruptly as if they ran out of budget before they could properly complete them. I don't recommend this movie. It's droning expository scenes will make your eyes glaze over and the people that made this were just competent enough to not make things unintentionally funny.
I have been enjoying science fiction films since childhood and I have seen many that grasp the creative spark and others that fall on their face. This one albeit low budget is of amazing quality. The story is interesting, there is a little I would have worked on but overall it is a solid effort both visually appealing and story wise. I will admit the "creatures" failed to really do it for me, I didn't care much for the whole origin story of them nor did I care for their overall design. They felt like something from the "dark crystal" to me and were roughly equally animated. That being said the rest of the movie was a solid home run, I love the fighter crafts and the "land speeder" that are featured in the film, the technology had that futuristic yet believable characteristic that makes sci fi films much more believable, a futuristic M-203 grenade launcher for target practice really got me hooked. Not to mention the subtle details like the morning coffee maker, that our main character skips in favor of his future miller highlife (or whatever brew). I liked the subtle redesign of the classic longneck. These little details keep us attached and believing versus overwhelmed.Overall it was kind of a mix of district 9 and the futuristic parts of outlander. When Hollywood is so focused on the same mundane stories and sequel after sequel and remake after remake I find it very pleasant to stumble upon a film of this creative caliber with such amazing qualities.
Rating this movie higher than a six is just nonsense. Okay they did a decent job considering the budget but it's not that good that you will remember it. At least I won't. The CGI are not bad and that's already something. The acting could definitely be better. There are just too much have-you-see-me characters that makes it sometimes boring. The story is just okay but really nothing you never saw before. I'm sure you saw much better movies with the same theme. I am a big sci-fi fan. It's one of my favorite genre of movies. But The Osiris Child won't make it in my top ten, not even my top twenty. But it's fine to watch once I guess.
Yes, this was much better than I had expected. I figured, well, with a low budget the CGI won't be up to par, it'll probably depend on blood and gore, and with very little plot or character development. I was wrong on all counts. The best thing about it was the back-story for the characters--you got to know them, and some of them were certainly worth knowing. Flashbacks throughout the film slowly pieced together a mosaic of complex characters that you came to understand and care for.And o yeah, there are monsters, sort of like the "monsters of the id" of FORBIDDEN PLANET. It was a solid sci-fi story and the CGI was better than it had any right to be. I was really impressed. The acting was OK for everyone and outstanding by a couple of the characters. One strange thing is the somewhat confusing names of this movie. The version I saw was called ORIGIN WARS, though known here on IMDb as SCIENCE FICTION VOLUME ONE: THE OSIRIS CHILD. The child was the young daughter who was the object of rescue by her father and his comrades-by-necessity, before the planet they were on was to be made uninhabitable by the evil corporation. It was a solid effort that was worth my time.
